SAE 2016 Graduate Student Paper Prize Competition
On May 6, 2016 by Nadeen ThomasThe Society for the Anthropology of Europe is calling for submissions
for its annual graduate student paper prize competition. Manuscripts
must deal with some aspect of Europeanist anthropology and/or
Europeanist anthropology’s contribution to the broader field of
anthropology. This rule will be interpreted liberally to include
papers of a comparative and/or theoretical nature.
Submissions will receive substantial feedback from the review
committee; candidates should thus send their most mature work in
publishable article format with the ultimate goal of submitting them
later for publication. Word limit is 8000, inclusive of abstract, main
text, and references. Submissions should not have been previously
published in print or online media. The committee will evaluate
originality, contribution to the field, and writing style appropriate
for a manuscript in preparation for publication in an academic journal.
Students will be notified in October regarding the review committee’s
decision. Three to four finalists will be invited to present their
work in the SAE-sponsored roundtable “Café Europa” at the 115th AAA
Annual Meeting (Nov. 16-20, Minneapolis, MN). The winner will be
announced at the end of the roundtable and will received the SAE
Graduate Student Paper Prize, which comes with a $400 award.
Interested graduate students are invited to submit their previously
unpublished work, along a title page that includes contact details, to
Bilge Firat (bfirat1@binghamton.edu) by August 1, 2016.
